Luxury homes for sale in Mercer Island
Mercer Island, Washington, United States luxury homes for sale brought to you by Luxury Portfolio International®
Mercer Island, Washington, located in King County, sits on the southern portion of Lake Washington and is a part of the Seattle metro area. Though bridges connect it along I-90 to the mainland, Mercer Island is a true island that offers upscale, affluent living and a wide range of onsite amenities.
The Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge and the Homer M. Hadley Memorial Bridge are two of the connection points, both floating bridges that span the waterfront to connect the island to the mainland in Seattle’s South End area.
Home to over 25,700 people, Mercer Island has the fifth highest per-capita income in the state and is typically ranked as one of the top 100 riches areas by zip code in the U.S.
Living on Mercer Island affords individuals ideal weather conditions during many parts of the year, with warm and dry summers that are not too hot with an average temperature of around 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Winters do get cold and snow is likely, but it tends to be a bit milder than other areas nearby.
One of the best features of the island is the parks, including Luther Burbank Park, which spans some 77 acres of land with about three quarters of a mile of waterfront area for a beach-like feel. The park also features a public boat dock, a swimming beach, a large fishing pier and an off-leash dog park along with an area for picnics and playing tennis.
Another park is just off I-90, called Aubrey Davis Park, which features softball fields, a picnic area and tennis courts, but is dominated by the Freeway Sculpture Park, a beautiful area to walk through. Commonly called “the Lid” locally because the park sits on top of the I-90 tunnel, this park is a good place for outdoor play in the sun.
Additional outdoor spaces include the 113-acre Pioneer Park with equestrian and hiking trails, the Deane’s Children’s Park with its fun playground and dragon structures and Clarke Beach, an area on the southern portion of the island that is most recognized for the “polar bear plunge” that takes place each year.
Throughout the year, numerous events occur on Mercer Island, including the Summer Celebration around the Fourth of July, which includes food, fireworks and family fun. Additionally, the Mercer Island Farmers Market takes place every Sunday during the summer and fall, offering outstanding locally produced products for sale, including fruits and crafts.
Real estate throughout Mercer Islands ranges from properties set on private acreage through stunning estates, as well as some smaller neighborhoods and subdivision areas.
Mercer Island Town has a downtown vibe to it and is home to some of the more historic homes on the island. North End is one of the more diverse areas that is noted for its location close to the freeway and offers lots of open green space while remaining close to the town center.
Other affluent communities include the Mid-Island area, West Mercer, South End and East Mercer, all with elaborate and custom-built homes, many of which offer waterfront views.
