Tuscaloosa, located in west-central Alabama, is home to over 101,000 people. The city is the county seat and home to numerous government establishments.

Tuscaloosa, spelled Tuskaloosa until the start of the 20th  century, sits on the Black Warrior River, right at the point where the Piedmont and Gulf Coastal plains come together. Some refer to the city as Druid City because of the many water oaks that line the downtown streets, which have been there since the 1840s.

Today, Tuscaloosa is very much a regional center, with numerous healthcare, commerce, industry and educational facilities located throughout the city. This community is also a part of the Tuscaloosa Metro Statistical Area, which includes Hale and Pickens counties.

Another notable component of the city is the University of Alabama, though it is also home to Shelton State Community College and Stillman College. The college community is a dominant player in the local area’s economy.

Tuscaloosa is divided into several areas, including West Tuscaloosa, North River, Hillcrest, Downtown, the University Main Campus area, Alberta City and Central Tuscaloosa. Each area has its own residential and business district.

As a prominent city, there is a large performing arts district in Tuscaloosa, and many of these locations are connected with the colleges in the area. There is also the Rude Mechanicals and Tuscaloosa Community Theater here, both of which have shows on a routine basis. The Bama Theatre is one of the largest theaters in the downtown area holding nearly 1100 people.

A number of museums are also in the city, including CHOM: The Children's Hands-On Museum of Tuscaloosa and the Alabama Museum of Natural History.

Perhaps what the city is most noted for during the warmer months are the numerous festivals that take place here, including the Weindorft Festival, a cultural German festival, the Sakura Festival, a Japanese-inspired event and the Kentuck Festival of Arts, which brings together artisans and numerous live demonstrations in areas such as quilting, potting and blacksmithing.

The natural area surrounding the city is beautiful to take in, offering many parks, hiking trails, biking trails and playgrounds. The University of Alabama Arboretum is a 60-acre area that features a greenhouse and wildflower garden.

For some fun, check out Bowers Park, an outdoor water park for all ages, or visit Bowlero, a bowling location with modern amenities and thrills. There could be events taking place at Bryant-Denny Stadium or visit the downtown area for some of the most eclectic foods.

There is also the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, a paved trail that runs along the riverfront of the Black Warrior River near the downtown area. This 4.5-mile walk allows for exploration of Capitol Park along with numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs and artisan shopping and other entertainment.

Tuscaloosa has numerous neighborhoods, including several more affluent areas such as Riverview. As its name implies, it sits on the river, providing access to green space and larger plots of land for more sophisticated homes.

Patton Place is another area of luxury homes, this one offering more modern homes with beautiful architecture. This area is also noted for its tree-lined streets with playgrounds, green space and outstanding access to local shops.

East End is an affluent community just southwest of the University of Alabama. Somewhat of a college area, it is also noted for its numerous historical homes, shops and smaller dining establishments.
