A Historic Homestead Once Part Of The Underground Railroad
The Ross Farm or Hill-Ross Farm is located in Northampton, Massachusetts and sits on 2.25 acres of land. This Colonial style home constructed in 1825 has a unique heritage and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A property once owned by notable individuals in the abolitionist movement who aided fugitives seeking shelter through the Underground Railroad and was also headquarters to the Northampton Association of Education and Industry, which benefited the movement by providing a school, store and housing in the expanding silk industry. Most of the association members were dedicated abolitionists and operated under beliefs of equality.
The rare farmhouse retains many of its original features including the pine board flooring and plaster walls with architectural details in the Federal and Colonial styles. Complete with four bedrooms, three fireplaces, a two-bedroom addition or in-law quarters and three barns. An additional house was built on the property in the 1950s with four bedrooms and privacy from the main home.
