LOCATION:
Spring Island is located between Hilton Head Island and Beaufort, SC. One-third of the islands three thousand acres are dedicated as a nature preserve. Less than four hundred families call the island home with a maximum capacity around four hundred homes.

The golf course is considered by many to be one of the very best in the country. Arnold Palmer designed Spring Island's Old Tabby Links. Old Tabby Links signature hole, number seventeen, has been ranked third within the Kings Dream eighteen. Its a beautiful one hundred and eighty yarder on a thin spit of land sandwiched between the golden marshes of the Chechessee River on the right, and the spring-fed rookery on the left. The course was ranked nineteenth among the top one hundred residential courses in America by Golf Week Magazine (2004).


Facilities include a modern twenty four-stall barn surrounded by fifteen grass paddocks. There are two riding rings, one for hunters and jumpers, and one for pleasure and beginning riders. The equestrian facility is set among live oaks, pines and palmettos and covers about twenty acres. Members enjoy the thirty five miles of trails that wander through open fields, through tall forests, along the marsh and ponds that contribute so much to the beauty of the Island and riding experience. The equestrian manager gives lessons and plans a variety of trips and events.

The tennis facility includes a four first class har-true clay courts. The courts are maintained with an underground watering system, which keeps them in excellent condition. Two gazebos surround the courts.

Thousands of acres of salt water are easily accessible to Spring Island. The Colleton and Chechessee Rivers are in plain view and flow into Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Redfish, Cobia, Tarpon, Jack and Spanish mackerel are all popular species in these waters. Inlets, creeks and rivers board the coastline and the cities of Hilton Head and Beaufort are easily accessible by water.

The fitness center is located in the Sports Garden along with the swimming pool, badminton, volleyball and tennis courts. With separate areas for cardio workouts, strengthening, and group exercise, the workout area is complete with cybex machines, free weights, ellipticals and treadmills. Also provided are aerobic, pilates, stretching and yoga classes.

Members may choose to join The Hunt Club, which provides quail hunting in the classic manner, with mule drawn wagon and hunters on horseback. Members hunt Pleasant Hill Plantation, a beautiful twenty six hundred acre leased property that is about forty five minutes from Spring Island. Meals and overnight accommodations in the Plantation house are enjoyed at Pleasant Hill during the season.

In addition, the club regularly books a variety of musical talent, including cabaret pianists, choral groups, gospel music groups, classical guitarists, New Orleans jazz bands and Chamber Music quartets.
