A Timeless Classic – Poised to Grace Another Century

Touted as the “Grandest Bungalow in all of Southern California ,” this transitional Craftsman residence was completed in 1901. The exterior of the structure demonstrates the restraint and simplicity of form that later became hallmarks of the Craftsman style. The grand interior of the home, with fine woodwork, original hand painted murals, and decorative detailing, incorporates turn-of-the-century excesses and old world craftsmanship.

Guests are greeted from the broad wrap-around veranda through impressive entry halls into gracious public spaces. On the main level, a parlor and a billiards/game room complement the traditional dining and living rooms. The fully renovated kitchen is expansive, ready to greet the family chef or caterer of choice. The upper floors contain a myriad of bedrooms, bathrooms and flexible spaces including a contemporary master suite with two separate spa inspired bathrooms.

A Spectacular Estate - Resplendent with a Storied Past

Built for Chicago meat packing magnate and inventor Michael Cudahy, the mansion was deeded to the Sisters of the Sacred Name of Jesus and Mary by his widow in 1914. They turned the guesthouse (since replaced) into a convent and created the Holy Names Collegiate School for Young Ladies in the main house. Most of the students were wealthy winter visitors studying Latin, science, literature, harp, and pianoforte.

In 1920, the property returned to its intended use as a private residence and a succession of owners followed. Most notable was the transfer in 1989 to real estate developers Gene and Marilyn Buchanan. The couple’s work on historic structures in Old Town Pasadena was a catalyst for the reinvention of Pasadena ’s historic core. They painstakingly renovated the original structure over a period of ten years. The Current owner has continued the pampering and The Cudahy Mansion stands today ready to face another century.
