HISTORY:

It is thought that Newtown House dates back approximately to the 1730’s, when it was built by the Browne Family. Although there was a dwelling listed at Newtown in 1685. Many well known characters have either owned or visited the property over the years, including Clifden Rothersby, whose father when in residence planted 500 beach trees on the drive in commemoration of his birth. Other owners have included Judge Kelly and in the 1930’s Major Carr, who hosted the wedding of the Duke of Warrick’s daughter. It is thought that the architraves in the principle rooms were gifted to Newtown House at the time of this wedding.
