THE BEAUTIFUL GEORGE GIBBS HOUSE  

Sheltered by one of Downtown Charleston's most beautiful Live Oaks, The George Gibbs house looks very much as it did when it was re built circa 1801. Within its walls are the remnants of the much older pre-revolutionary structure that was burned in the fires of 1740 and 1778. Like many of the historic houses of Charleston, 20 Elliott St. was saved from ruin by pioneer conservationists in the late 30's and 40's. In 2005 it was again completely modernized with all new plumbing, wiring, heating and air conditioning, all while retaining its historic integrity and appearance.

The house is approximately 2750 square feet, has three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a first floor powder room. The dining room connects via pocket doors to a garden conservatory lit by a skylight. The second floor drawing room and its adjacent library provide a usually large entertaining space where parties for 40 can be handled with ease. The drawing room also has a built-in bar with a refrigerator/icemaker.
