Located in County Mayo in the West of Ireland, Prospect Lodge enjoys outstanding views of the spectacular wild and unspoilt landscape that this region is renowned for. The view is dominated by Nephin, the second highest mountain in Mayo.
The Lodge which dates from the 18th century was originally part of a milling/haggard complex on the Enniscoe Estate. At that time the public road to Castlebar, down which the French army marched in 1798, used to pass in front of it. The mill, which was horse driven, was reduced in height and converted into a lodge in the early 20th century.
Prospect Lodge and its surrounding lands, including Lough na Bastia and Roe Island on Lough Conn were once part of the Enniscoe Estate. The approach to the lodge is via one of the estate entrances.
The residence is a charming traditional style house, which over looks mature woodland down to Lough na Bastia . It was re-roofed and modernised, retaining its traditional appearances in the 1980’s. It sits, surrounded by its own 50.6 acres of land, which is made up of both pasture, mature woodland and newly planted woodland. It also includes Lough na Basta, which is a spring fed lake with traces of a pre-historic forest. The island in the middle is a Crannog, an ancient man made island. A right of way to Lough Conn gives access to Roe Island, the largest island in Lough Conn. Included in the sale is a further piece of land, situated on the west side of the Enniscoe Estate.
