The Thornton-Jones House. Architect, Philip Trammell Shutze, 1936. 205 West Paces Ferry Road , Buckhead

For this beautiful Atlanta landmark, Philip Shutze gave some of the forms of late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century English and American neoclassicism a fresh and charming interpretation: on the front, the Regency manner of the English architect Sir John Soane (1753-1837) and on the rear, the American Federal. It is one of Shutze’s finest efforts and is an enduring landmark of classic Atlanta situated on a lovely level wooded corner lot measuring just over two acres on Buckhead’s most prestigious road.

The home has been renovated and expanded with painstaking attention to historical detail. With the help of Bill Harrison, the house has been expanded to nearly 10,000 square feet. Years of paint have been stripped from the moldings and medallions and they have been restored to their former glory.
