Ever since its opening in 1912, the "Pink Palace" has attracted Hollywood's elite. Standard rooms are also nothing to sniff at, with original artwork, butler service, Frette linens and duvets, walk-in closets, and huge marble bathrooms. The Chateau's swank exterior disguises its lurid place in Hollywood history -- many remember it as the scene of John Belushi's fatal overdose in 1982, and in 2004 controversial photographer Helmut Newton died in a car crash on his way out of the hotel. Actors like Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves appreciate the hotel for its secluded cottages, bungalows, and understated suites and penthouses. Ian Schrager, famed for his stylish hotels, created this all-white, high-rise, urban resort.
