Johnstone & Johnstone grew from the dream of Gordon Johnstone who started a real estate career shortly after World War I in 1919 and formed his own company in 1939.
The first branch offices were opened in Grosse Pointe Park and downtown Detroit. Additional branches were added in St. Clair Shores, Birmingham and Farmington before being relocated under one roof at the present location of 82 Kercheval Avenue, Grosse Pointe Farms.
The company was passed on to Paris DeSanto from the Johnstone family in 1991. In 1995, the company merged with real Estate One, retaining its name and strong market identity in the Grosse Pointe community. Two other prominent Grosse Pointe companies, champion & Baer, and R.G. Edgar & Associates, joined the company in 1999. Today the company with a total of 55 sales agents, has consistently been the leader in sales volume in Grosse Pointe and surrounding communities.
