About Scarsdale
Scarsdale is a town of 17,000 in Westchester County, New York. Founded as a royal manor in the early 18th century by Caleb Heathcoate, it was broken up into the present town in 1774, though it remained largely agrarian until the arrival of the New York and Harlem Railroad in the 1840s. Since that time the town has been noted for its large estates and, in many ways, its many clubs and social venues make it the quintessential upscale suburb. With a median household income of $200,000, Scarsdale also sports a number of highly regarded schools and other public facilities. Architecturally, its housing stock is an eclectic assemblage of styles that range from the Federal to the Tudor Revival, with a number of both traditional and contemporary homes available in the general area.Property, however, is not the only thing that connects Scarsdale to the effortless elegance of the past, as the annual Concours d'Elegence auto competition is known throughout the world for both exotic exhibits and glamorous guests. Focused on raising money for charity, the Concours is not only a major event for enthusiasts of artistry set to motion in steel and chrome, but also for socialites from throughout the greater New York region.
