About Highland Park
One of the central municipalities of suburban Chicago’s wealthy North Shore community, Highland Park, Illinois, is noted for both its cultural events and the quality of its homes, many of which have been designed by noted Midwestern architects. The Ravinia Festival, which is located at downtown Highland Park’s Ravinia Park, is particularly noted for its jazz and classical music offerings which, throughout the summer, include performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Boosted by upscale shopping and fine dining, the area immediately around the park gradually turns into widely spaced, open-air estates that are famed for hosting prized homes that have been designed by the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, David Adler, John S. Van Bergen, Robert E. Seyfarth, and Howard Van Doren Shaw. Though many of these homes are noted for reflecting the aesthetics of the Prairie and Chicago schools, Highland Park is also widely considered to have one of the best selections of residences that were inspired by the Craftsman and Mid-Century Modern movements. Though diverse in both theme and detail, the various styles that are found within Highland Park nevertheless ‘dialogue’ with each other in an exemplary fashion, and no drive through this town of 33,000 is ever a jarring or anything other than a pleasant experience. Given its long history as one of Chicago’s most educated and stately suburbs, the rewarding nature of life in Highland Park is set to be a permanent cornerstone of the North Shore.
