While teaching at Colorado College in 1893, Professor Katherine Lee Bates took a trip up Pikes Peak and came down with the words to "America the Beautiful." The amber waves of grain and fruited plains lie a bit farther out of town these days, but spacious skies and mountain majesties still capture the essence of living in Colorado Springs.
