About Rancho Santa Fe
Originally chartered as a tree farm for providing its parent railroad with timber for track repair and expansion, today’s Rancho Santa Fe is listed by Forbes as the third most expensive zip code in the United States and considered, by various media that report on financial matters, to be one of the world’s wealthiest communities. Though this small, upland suburb of San Diego, California, saw its original economic mission fall to the wayside nearly a century ago, its historical origins are reflected in the eucalyptus trees that are not only found in abundance along its streets, but that are still protected by local law. Such stridency is also reflected in zoning codes that relate to homebuilding standards and architecture. Though some homeowners have complained about the creative limitations this necessarily imposes, many believe that these regulations have secured Rancho Santa Fe’s reputation as an area that is noted for exceptional home quality, upkeep, and overall appearance. The inherent value of properties located within Rancho Santa Fe, however, is far from being its only selling point. As it is immediately adjacent to the economically fortuitous neighborhoods of northern San Diego, Rancho Santa Fe’s location also provides its residents with easy access to both the upscale shopping and entertainment venues the area is known for and a multitude of local businesses that, in the modern age, play a significant role in the defense, aviation, electronics, and software development industries.
