The Top Wines of 2009

Wine Spectator recently released its list of top wines for the past year - what they call the most “exciting” wines of 2009. Value was a major factor as they compiled their annual list this year, and the average price per bottle of the Top 100 is $40, which seems pretty reasonable. #1 on their list is the Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Reserve 2005 from Columbia Crest (only $27 a bottle).

Serving a top-rated wine to your guests, or giving one as a gift to a party host this holiday season would be a sure way to impress. Read more on the Top 100.

Phyllis Harb's Gravatar Last year I met my brother and his wife and we went wine tasting in Paso Robles; they boast a number of great wineries.. My sister has relocated to Washington (state) and the wines of Walla Walla are also excellent values. Of course I love a great Barolo but the lower our dollar sinks, the better value our U.S. wines become.

At this time of year, I find myself scouring for hostess gifts... the thank you for having me gift. A bottle of wine is always easy but it can be expensive... Anyone can find a $40+ bottle, but if I can find a great bottle for under $30 it’s even better.

Thank you for this post, it is great!
