Look and Listen

If you're at home and your artwork starts speaking to you, you should probably get more sleep or cut back on your cocktail of choice – unless you are lucky enough to own Artcoustic speakers. Artcoustic picks artists from around the globe to create artwork that is reproduced as a digital print and then handmade into a screen to hide the high-quality speakers behind it. You can even have an original piece of artwork transformed into a cover for the flat speakers, which are the perfect complement to a wall-mounted TV. Eight colors are available for the loudspeaker screens, enabling them to blend in with any interior design.

Luxury Oasis

To blog about luxury homes and not mention Arizona would be a tremendous oversight.  The state is an oasis of luxury, with enough luxury homes to fill the Grand Canyon.  Take this stunning seven-bedroom Tucson home.  Set on cliffs overlooking all of Tucson, the home has been featured in Architechtural Digest, Dream Homes, and Design & Architecture, among other publications.  Natural materials mix with modern elements for a gracious balance of old and new - the contemporary kitchen a great example of this harmony.  A well-kept tennis court, pool, hot tub, and fire pit add to the resort-like atmosphere of the 20-acre property.  The home is listed with Long Realty Company.

more luxury Arizona homes... Scottsdale has become one of the hottest (no pun intended) luxury markets in Arizona, with gourmet restaurants, top spas, great golf, and fantastic shopping.  There are so many wonderful luxury homes in Scottsdale that I may have to follow this post with another one focusing just on Scottsdale, but for now, I'll just write about a couple of my favorites, both listed with Russ Lyon Realty Company.  This fortress-like estate caught my eye.  It is settled majestically atop a hill with incredible views of the surrounding landscape.  The interior is infused with Mediterranean style and European flair, and includes a wine room, media room and atrium.  The 4-acre property includes a guest house and a courtyard with a dramatic waterfall, negative-edge pool, spa and multiple sundecks. My other Scottsdale example is this exquisitely crafted home, finished with Venetian plaster walls, tumbled marble, hardwood floors, natural stones, and handcrafted details.  The earthy tones and natural materials give this desert home an ancient elegance, while modern amenities - such as the gourmet kitchen, media room, putting green, negative-edge pool and wine cellar - keep the home current. Just down the road from Scottsdale is Phoenix- a booming metropolis chock full of luxury homes, including this Mediterranean masterpiece, also listed with Russ Lyon Realty Company.  Vaulted ceilings and skylights throughout create a cavernous quality, while intricate decorative details add an impression of intimacy. If you want something further removed from city life, or you're a golf enthusiast, check out this golf course home in Sedona.  Not only is it on a golf course, but it has mesa and red rock views, as well as amazing Wright-influenced architecture.  I'll stop here, but if you want to see more, you can check out many more luxury Arizona properties at LuxuryPortfolio.com.

Illuminating Artwork

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "light is the first of painters." Danish artist Ulla Darni expounds on that idea and creates some remarkable works of art that are truly enlightening. She paints one-of-a-kind chandeliers, table lamps and sconces on a canvas of glass. Some of her incredible lighting creations grace museums, celebrity homes and royal palaces. Each piece is accented by wrought iron and bronze hardware selected to complement the shapes and colors of the painted glass. Prices vary based on the size and the amount of work involved in creating each piece, which are available through a number of US and international galleries.

Jukebox Hero

I love my personal digital music player. Ripping, synching and carrying a huge library of music in my palm is amazing. What seems to be lacking in the digital music world, however, is a way to integrate your music into a stylish home entertainment system. Even though there is a wide variety of docking stations, speakers, et cetera, to turn your digital music player of choice into a tabletop stereo, there hasn't been a way to really create a home entertainment experience. Crosley Radio has recognized that, and offers the CR12-DI Digital Jukebox, which combines the most up-to-date computer and audio technology with the distinct styling of the 1950's. The jukebox can connect to the internet to download music, rip music from CD, and stores up to 1,500 hours of video and music content. Instead of a huge plastic button that flips plastic arms back and forth, the user interfaces with the jukebox via a touch screen. The digital jukebox certainly gives the party host an incredible centerpiece for their entertainment or rec room. I love this product, but the lyric "I love rock 'n roll, so put another digital music file in the jukebox, baby" may take some getting used to.

Shower Yourself with Sunlight

Forget about that winter tanning salon membership and just hop in the shower. The ProSun Sunshower allows you to obtain and sustain a bronzed glow by simply maintaining your bathing schedule. With balanced UV lighting, the Sunshower tans your skin while you get clean. A straightforward control panel allows the user to determine the time and intensity of their tanning program to receive a well-adjusted amount of sunlight at their convenience.  The innovative nature of the Sunshower is combined with an elegant timeless design that can be integrated into any bathroom style. It will definitely look good in my bathroom next to my new invention: the sink/pina colada mixer combo [patent pending].

Butterfield & Robinson offers travelers and adventure seekers all of those things and so much more with their amazing bicycle journeys. This bicycle escapade provides the voyager with an experience way beyond the offerings of any guidebook and gives them a true sense of the place they are visiting. I'm ready to pedal!

Warm Storage

What could be more refreshing than a nice relaxing bath? How about wrapping up in a nice warm towel or robe after a nice relaxing bath. Dacor's integrated warming oven allows you to do just that. The heated drawer, with temperatures ranging from 100 to 200 degrees, can fit four bath towels, two beach towels or an oversized robe. A timer can be set to warm your towels as you soak, and an integrated door front allows the warming oven to match the rest of your bathroom cabinetry. That certainly beats my method of tossing the towel on top of the bathroom vent and hoping the heater kicks on. This versatile warming oven can also be incorporated into the kitchen, dining room, or butler's pantry to keep food and plates at an ideal temperature.

Automated Sommelier

Do I have enough Pinot Noir for the party this weekend? When should I enjoy my 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon? These questions and much more can be answered effortlessly by a truly remarkable wine steward. The eSommelier is an integrated wine management server that allows wine aficionados unmatched access to their annals with the simple touch of a button. The user interfaces with a touch screen monitor to retrieve a wealth of information on their wine library. A bar coding system is also available in combination with eSommelier, which prints out codes for each bottle of wine. When a bottle is removed from the cellar, you can simply scan the bar code and the bottle is automatically removed from inventory. Additional options include a temperature/humidity sensor and synchronization software that can link together eSommelier systems in different locations.

A Cool Way to Stay Warm

Fall is upon us, and another bitterly cold winter (at least here in the Midwest) is on the way. I remember a few drafty apartments of mine where staying warm in winter meant layering on an obscene amount of clothing and hibernating under a pile of blankets. A much more stylish way to beat the winter cold is with the Fireorb, a truly unique and innovative hearth. Unlike most fireplaces, which are basically metal boxes dressed up with various decoration, Fireorb hangs from the ceiling and has a 360° rotation field, allowing it to direct warmth anywhere is a room. It can be easily incorporated into any elegant design. A fashionable, hovering fire sure beats wearing two sweatshirts and gloves around the house.
